OBD-II fault code

P2295: Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 Control Circuit Low

What it means

The control circuit for Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 is below the expected electrical range. The code alone does not identify the cause.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The control module drives Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 through an electrical control circuit and monitors the circuit's signal. P2295 sets when that signal is lower than the expected electrical range, which can happen with a short to ground, a shorted regulator coil, or high resistance at corroded connector pins.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Drive line shorted to ground
  2. Solenoid coil internally shorted
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Hard start, no start, or stalling under load
  • Power loss especially at high load or rpm
  • Possible long cranking time

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and check for related regulator or fuel-pressure codes before clearing anything.
  2. Inspect the Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 wiring for chafing or contact with metal that could short the drive wire to ground.
  3. Check the regulator connector for corrosion, poor pin fit, or moisture that could add contact resistance.
  4. Test the control wire for a short to ground and measure regulator-coil condition using the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If the wiring and regulator pass, verify the control-module output against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Repair a control wire shorted to ground.
  • Clean or replace corroded connector terminals and restore a sound connection.
  • Replace Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 if its coil is internally shorted.
  • Repair the control-module driver circuit if testing identifies it as the source.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving, especially under heavy acceleration, because the regulator may not control fuel pressure correctly and the engine can lose power or stall. If it stalls or struggles to start, avoid driving until the circuit is checked.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
