What it means
The injector control pressure signal is erratic. The code does not by itself establish whether the cause is the sensor, its circuit, or another system fault.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
On systems that use high-pressure oil for injector actuation, the control module monitors the injector control pressure signal. P2292 sets when that signal fluctuates erratically instead of tracking smoothly, which may reflect air in the oil rail or an intermittent sensor connection or harness fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Air in HP oil rail
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
- Harness routed against vibrating component
Symptoms
- Check-engine light on
- Hard starting or stalling
- Rough or uneven engine operation
- Reduced power
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and graph injector control pressure while cranking and running to see when the signal becomes erratic.
- Inspect the pressure sensor connector and nearby harness for loose pins, corrosion, chafing, or contact with vibrating parts.
- With the engine running only when safe, gently move the accessible harness while watching live pressure data for dropouts.
- Check the high-pressure oil rail and system service history for evidence of air entry or recent work that could have introduced air.
- If wiring and air entry are ruled out, test the pressure sensor and high-pressure oil system according to the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Secure or reroute a harness that is rubbing against a vibrating component.
- Clean or repair loose or corroded pressure-sensor connector terminals.
- Repair a high-pressure oil leak that is allowing air into the rail.
- Replace a pressure sensor only if circuit and sensor tests confirm it is faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Hard starting, stalling, or reduced power can make driving unpredictable; avoid busy roads and stop if the engine stalls or runs severely rough. Arrange diagnosis soon, since erratic injector control pressure can worsen into a no-start.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
