OBD-II fault code

P211E: Throttle Actuator B Control Module Processor

What it means

The processor monitoring throttle B inside the throttle/PCM has reported a self-test failure — RAM check, ROM check, or watchdog timeout.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The throttle actuator B control module processor supervises the electronics assigned to the B throttle path and runs internal checks on its memory and operation. P211E sets when that processor detects a RAM or ROM self-test failure or misses a watchdog check, which can interrupt throttle control.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Internal processor fault
  2. Module software outdated, reflash may resolve
  3. Supply voltage outside specification

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Reduced throttle response, possible limp mode
  • Hesitation or surging
  • Idle too high or too low

How to diagnose it

  1. Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and related throttle or module codes before clearing anything, since they can show whether low system voltage or another fault came first.
  2. Check battery condition, charging operation, and module power and ground connections against the manufacturer's specification because supply voltage outside range can trigger a processor fault.
  3. Inspect the throttle actuator B module connectors and harness for loose pins, corrosion, moisture, or damaged wiring.
  4. Compare live throttle command and position data with the engine off and during a safe stationary check to see whether the B path reports implausible or missing values.
  5. If power, grounds, and wiring are sound, check for applicable software updates or calibration guidance for the vehicle before considering an internal module failure.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose module power, ground, or connector terminals.
  • Repair damaged wiring or restore a sound battery or charging connection if voltage is out of specification.
  • Update or reflash the control module when an applicable manufacturer update addresses the fault.
  • Replace or repair the throttle actuator B control module if its processor fault persists with correct power, grounds, and wiring.

Can I keep driving?

Throttle response may be reduced or unpredictable, and the vehicle may enter limp mode; avoid high-speed traffic and journeys that require quick acceleration. Stop somewhere safe if throttle control becomes unreliable, since continued driving can leave you unable to accelerate normally.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
