What it means
Throttle B motor current draw does not match the calibrated map for the commanded position — high friction, partial short, or stiction.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Throttle actuator B’s motor moves the secondary throttle body, while position feedback lets the control module track its response. P211C sets when throttle B motor current differs from the calibrated pattern for the commanded position, which can point to high friction or an electrical fault in that actuator circuit.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- High friction in throttle bore
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
- Sensor mounting loose - signal damping
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Reduced throttle response, possible limp mode
- Hesitation or surging
- Idle too high or too low
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare throttle B’s command, position feedback, and available motor-current data with related actuator codes.
- Inspect throttle B’s plate and bore for deposits or friction, and check that the body and sensor are mounted securely.
- Examine throttle B’s motor connector and wiring for loose pins, corrosion, chafing, or evidence of a partial short.
- Use a scan-tool actuator test, if supported, to see whether throttle B moves smoothly and whether current changes abnormally with the command.
- Test the throttle B motor and its circuit against the manufacturer’s specification to separate mechanical resistance from wiring or actuator faults.
Common fixes
- Repair loose, corroded, or damaged throttle B motor wiring and connector pins.
- Clean deposits causing friction in the throttle B bore using the approved procedure.
- Secure a loose throttle B sensor or body mounting if it is affecting feedback.
- Replace the throttle B actuator or body if its current draw remains outside specification after other checks.
Can I keep driving?
Throttle B may respond slowly or trigger reduced power, even if limp mode is not currently active. Avoid demanding acceleration and stop driving if throttle response becomes unpredictable.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
