What it means
Reductant Injection Air Pump Control Circuit High: the control-circuit voltage is above the expected range. This valve doses reductant (DEF/AdBlue) into the exhaust for SCR NOx reduction.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The reductant injection air pump control circuit operates the air pump used by some SCR systems to help deliver DEF into the exhaust. The control module monitors circuit voltage when it commands the pump. P2061 sets when the voltage is higher than expected, which can indicate a short to battery voltage and interfere with pump control.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Short to B+
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Supply wire pinched against B+ source
Symptoms
- Check engine light or NOx warning on
- AdBlue/DEF level or quality warning
- Possible no-start countdown after ignore period
- Failed emissions inspection (NOx)
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check for related SCR or pump codes to confirm when the high circuit reading occurred.
- Inspect the air pump control wiring for pinched insulation or contact with a battery-positive wire or terminal.
- Check the pump connector for corrosion, moisture, loose fit or displaced terminals that could affect the circuit reading.
- Use the manufacturer's wiring diagram to test the control circuit for a short to battery voltage while following the specified isolation steps.
- If the wiring is sound, test the air pump and its control device according to the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair a control wire pinched against a battery-positive source and secure its routing.
- Clean, dry and reconnect corroded or loose air pump terminals.
- Replace a damaged connector or harness section.
- Replace the air pump or control device if circuit testing confirms an internal fault.
Can I keep driving?
You may be able to drive if the vehicle runs normally, but the air pump may not operate as intended and NOx emissions can rise. Have the fault checked promptly; some vehicles may impose a no-start countdown if the SCR warning remains unresolved.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
