OBD-II fault code

P0EA4: DC/DC Converter Current Sensor C Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The ECM detects a range/performance fault on the dc/dc converter current sensor c circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The DC/DC converter converts high-voltage power into low-voltage power for the 12-volt system. The control module uses current sensor C to monitor converter current; this code sets when sensor C’s output falls outside its expected operating range or does not respond as expected, making the reading unreliable.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor characteristic drifted
  2. Sensor mounting displaced
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV system warning light
  • Reduced power or limited electric drive
  • Charging may be limited
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and inspect live data for current sensor C to see whether its reading is implausible or fails to track converter operation.
  2. Check for related converter or hybrid-system codes that could indicate another fault affecting the sensor reading.
  3. With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer’s high-voltage safety procedure, inspect sensor C’s mounting and connector for displacement, looseness, or corrosion.
  4. Inspect sensor C’s wiring for visible damage and check its terminals for secure contact.
  5. Test sensor C’s output and circuit against the manufacturer’s procedure and specification; replace the sensor if it remains out of range with correct mounting and sound wiring.

Common fixes

  • Secure or clean the sensor C connector if it is loose or corroded.
  • Repair damaged sensor C wiring or terminals.
  • Correct sensor C’s mounting if it has shifted.
  • Replace current sensor C if its output remains out of range after mounting and circuit faults are ruled out.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving if the vehicle has reduced power or limited electric drive, and avoid long journeys until the reading is checked. An unreliable sensor C reading may lead to restricted charging or electric range and further hybrid-system limits.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
