OBD-II fault code

P0EA5: DC/DC Converter Current Sensor C Circuit Low

What it means

The ECM detects a low fault on the dc/dc converter current sensor c circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The DC/DC converter supplies the vehicle’s 12-volt system by converting high-voltage battery power. The control module monitors the current sensor C signal; this code sets when that signal falls below its expected range, so the module cannot use it reliably to assess converter current.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to ground
  2. Internal sensor short
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV system warning light
  • Reduced power or limited electric drive
  • Charging may be limited
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check live data for current sensor C to confirm the low signal and the conditions when it occurs.
  2. Check for related converter or hybrid-system codes that might point to a shared electrical fault.
  3. With the vehicle powered down using the manufacturer’s high-voltage safety procedure, inspect sensor C’s signal wire for damage or a short to ground.
  4. Check the sensor C connector for corrosion, loose terminals, or moisture that could pull down the signal.
  5. Test the signal circuit for a short to ground and check sensor C using the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure; replace the sensor if the wiring and connections are sound but the signal stays low.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose sensor C connector terminals, replacing damaged terminals as needed.
  • Repair the sensor C signal wire if it is shorted to ground or damaged.
  • Replace current sensor C if its output remains low after the circuit is repaired.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid long trips if power is reduced, electric drive is limited, or charging is affected. The low sensor C signal can interfere with converter control and may lead to additional hybrid-system restrictions.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
