What it means
The ECM detects a range/performance fault on the dc/dc converter current sensor a circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
DC/DC converter current sensor A measures current so the control module can manage converter operation. P0E52 sets when sensor A’s signal is outside the expected range or does not respond as expected, even if the circuit is connected; sensor drift, aging, or displaced mounting can cause this mismatch.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor characteristic drifted
- Sensor mounting displaced
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Hybrid/EV system warning light may turn on
- Reduced power or charging performance
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame and live data for sensor A current readings alongside converter operating conditions, looking for values that do not track changes as expected.
- Inspect current sensor A and its mounting for looseness, displacement, or damage that could affect the measurement.
- Check sensor A’s connector, wiring, and ground for corrosion, poor contact, or damage that could distort the signal.
- Compare the sensor A reading with the manufacturer’s expected response under the same operating conditions.
- If mounting and circuit checks pass, test sensor A for characteristic drift and replace it only if it is outside the manufacturer’s calibration limits.
Common fixes
- Secure current sensor A in its specified mounting position.
- Repair a poor connector, ground, or damaged wire affecting sensor A’s reading.
- Clean or replace corroded sensor A terminals.
- Replace current sensor A if testing confirms its output has drifted beyond specification.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid extended driving or heavy electrical loads if reduced power or charging performance appears, because inaccurate sensor A data can interfere with converter control. Arrange diagnosis promptly, especially if 12-volt electrical warnings accompany the code.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
