OBD-II fault code

P0E75: Coolant Bypass Valve A Control Circuit/Open

What it means

The coolant bypass valve A reports a control circuit high condition. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Coolant bypass valve A redirects coolant through or around part of the thermal management system, helping regulate component or cabin temperature. P0E75 indicates that valve A's control circuit is open or cannot produce the expected response. A short to B+, an open valve coil, or a poor connector contact can interrupt control.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wire shorted to B+
  2. Coil open
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV system warning light
  • Heating or cooling may be reduced
  • Temperature regulation may be slower

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and use a scan tool to check valve A commands, feedback, and related thermal management codes.
  2. Inspect valve A's connector and harness for chafing, moisture, pushed-back pins, or corrosion.
  3. Use the wiring diagram to check valve A's control circuit for a short to B+ and confirm connector continuity.
  4. Test valve A's coil against the manufacturer's specification to identify an open coil.
  5. If the wiring and coil pass, command valve A with a scan tool and check its response before evaluating the driver circuit.

Common fixes

  • Repair chafed wiring or a short to B+ in valve A's control circuit.
  • Clean or repair corroded, loose, or pushed-back valve A connector terminals.
  • Replace coolant bypass valve A if its coil is open or it fails its specified functional test.
  • Repair the control module driver if the valve and wiring pass their tests.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid long trips if heating or cooling is reduced or the hybrid/EV system limits power, since poor coolant routing can impair temperature control. Stop if a temperature warning appears or the vehicle instructs you to do so.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
