What it means
The control circuit voltage for coolant bypass valve B is lower than expected. The module sets this code when it detects low voltage in the monitored circuit.
How it works
Coolant bypass valve B controls coolant routing for part of the vehicle’s thermal-management system. The module monitors voltage in valve B’s control circuit and sets P0E7C when that voltage falls below the expected range, commonly from a short to ground, faulty actuator, poor connection, or supply fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Short to ground in valve wiring
- Faulty bypass valve actuator
- Corroded or loose connector
- Control circuit power supply fault
Symptoms
- Hybrid or EV warning light
- Reduced power
- Battery or motor temperature warning
- Cabin heating or cooling may be reduced
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and examine live valve B command, circuit voltage or status, and coolant temperatures to see when the low condition occurs.
- Inspect valve B’s harness and connector for chafing to ground, moisture, corrosion, loose pins, or damaged insulation.
- Check the circuit’s fuse and power supply using the wiring diagram, since a supply fault can also pull the monitored voltage low.
- Following the manufacturer’s isolation procedure, test valve B wiring for a short to ground and check terminal contact condition.
- Measure the actuator coil and circuit voltage as directed by the manufacturer, comparing results with its specifications before checking the module output.
Common fixes
- Repair a valve B wire shorted to ground.
- Clean or replace corroded or loose connector terminals and restore the seal.
- Repair a faulty control-circuit power supply or fuse connection.
- Replace valve B if its actuator fails the manufacturer’s electrical test.
- Repair the module output only if testing rules out the wiring and actuator.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving if reduced power or a battery or motor temperature warning appears, since valve B may not route coolant correctly. Stop safely if a temperature warning comes on or the vehicle’s power drops significantly.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
