What it means
The ECM detects a range/performance fault on the generator inverter temperature sensor c circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Generator inverter temperature sensor C measures temperature at a point in the inverter, and the control module uses its reading to guide hybrid-system temperature management. This code sets when sensor C’s reading is outside the expected range or changes implausibly, making that temperature input unreliable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor characteristic drifted
- Sensor mounting displaced
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Hybrid/EV system warning light on
- Power may be reduced if the inverter temperature reading is implausible
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame data and compare sensor C’s live reading with sensors A and B and ambient temperature for an implausible difference.
- With the hybrid system safely powered down per service information, inspect sensor C’s mounting and connector for displacement, damage, moisture, or corrosion.
- Check sensor C’s harness for rubbing, heat damage, or tension that could affect its signal.
- Watch sensor C’s reading as inverter temperature changes and note whether it is stuck, erratic, or inconsistent with the other sensors.
- Test sensor C and its circuit against the manufacturer’s specification to identify sensor drift or a circuit fault.
Common fixes
- Secure sensor C in its specified mounting position.
- Repair damaged wiring or connector terminals at sensor C.
- Replace sensor C if its reading fails the manufacturer’s specification.
- Repair a confirmed fault in the sensor C circuit to the control module.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving and avoid heavy loads because the hybrid system may reduce power when sensor C’s inverter temperature reading is implausible. Stop safely if overheating signs or a major loss of power occur.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
