What it means
The HV battery pack coolant control valve C reports a control circuit/open condition.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Coolant control valve C directs battery-pack coolant through the path selected by the thermal management system. This code sets when the valve C control circuit is open, so the module may be unable to command the valve and regulate pack cooling as intended.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open in valve control wire
- Open actuator
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and hybrid or EV system codes, then note battery temperature and the commanded state of valve C.
- With the vehicle powered down according to its service instructions, inspect valve C's connector for loose or backed-out pins, corrosion, or damage.
- Inspect the valve C control harness for breaks, chafing, or other damage that could cause an open circuit.
- Test valve C circuit continuity and actuator resistance or operation only as specified by the manufacturer.
- If the wiring and actuator pass, test the module output controlling valve C.
Common fixes
- Reconnect valve C or repair a backed-out or damaged connector pin.
- Repair an open or damaged section of valve C control wiring.
- Replace the valve C actuator if it fails the specified electrical test.
- Repair the control module output if testing confirms it has failed.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid long trips, fast charging, and heavy power demands if a battery thermal warning or reduced-power message appears, because pack cooling may be compromised. Stop if the vehicle reports overheating or enters limp mode and arrange prompt diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
