What it means
The cell balancing circuit I reports a stuck off condition. Cell-group voltage equalization may be impaired on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The battery management system switches circuit I to balance a particular battery cell group and monitors whether the path turns on when requested. P0DCE sets when circuit I remains off despite a balancing command, so that channel cannot perform its requested equalization.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open balancing switch or circuit
- Open or damaged balancing-circuit wiring
- BMS driver fault
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check live balancing commands and status for circuit I to confirm that balancing was requested but did not occur.
- Use the manufacturer’s diagnostic information to locate the cell group, circuit I wiring, and relevant connectors.
- With the vehicle made safe under the manufacturer’s high-voltage procedures, inspect circuit I connectors and wiring for breaks, loose pins, corrosion, or other open-circuit damage.
- Review cell-group voltage and temperature data and related faults to see whether conditions are preventing the BMS from requesting circuit I balancing.
- Test circuit I continuity and the balancing switch or driver using the manufacturer’s procedure to distinguish an open connection from failed hardware.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or repair an open or damaged circuit I wire or connector.
- Correct a cell-voltage or temperature condition that is preventing a balancing request, if confirmed.
- Replace a circuit I balancing switch that fails the manufacturer’s tests.
- Repair or replace the BMS driver if circuit I wiring and its switch test correctly.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving to what is necessary if the vehicle has reduced power, charging restrictions, or a hybrid/EV warning. Continued use can allow the affected cell group to drift further from the others and may lead to greater range or propulsion limits.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
