What it means
The cell balancing circuit D reports a stuck off condition. Cell-group voltage equalization may be impaired on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The BMS uses circuit D to bleed charge from cell groups that sit at a higher voltage than the rest of the pack. P0DBA indicates the D balancing path is not activating when commanded, so that channel cannot perform its intended equalization.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Balancing switch or circuit open
- Battery pack or BMS internal fault
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame and BMS data to confirm whether circuit D was commanded on and compare the associated cell-group voltages with the rest of the pack.
- Inspect accessible circuit D wiring and connectors, with the high-voltage system made safe as required by the manufacturer, for an open, loose fit, corrosion, or damage.
- Compare D-channel voltage and temperature readings across charging or service data to determine whether the same group repeatedly diverges.
- Test circuit D wiring for continuity and shorts, then verify that the balancing switch or driver responds to the BMS command according to the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the external circuit passes, have the BMS and battery-pack balancing hardware checked for an internal open or failure.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or clean a loose or corroded circuit D connector.
- Repair an open or damaged wire in the D balancing circuit.
- Replace a verified failed circuit D balancing switch or component.
- Repair or replace a battery-pack or BMS component if internal testing confirms the open condition.
Can I keep driving?
If the vehicle still drives normally, keep trips short and gentle and avoid depending on full electric range; charging may be limited as the D cell group drifts from the others. If power is reduced, charging stops, or a battery warning escalates, stop safely and arrange diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
