OBD-II fault code

P0DA4: Drive Motor B Inverter Voltage Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The ECM detects a range/performance fault on the drive motor b inverter voltage sensor a circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The drive motor B inverter voltage sensor A reports voltage associated with motor B’s inverter to the control module. The module checks whether that signal stays within the expected range and behaves consistently with operating conditions; this code sets when the signal is plausible enough to avoid a simple high or low fault but falls outside its expected range or performance pattern.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor characteristic drifted
  2. Sensor mounting displaced
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and compare sensor A’s live reading with related inverter and battery voltage data to see when the mismatch occurs.
  2. With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, inspect the motor B inverter sensor A mounting and connector for looseness, damage, contamination, or displacement.
  3. Check the sensor A harness routing for chafing, strain, heat damage, or a poor ground or reference connection.
  4. Use the vehicle wiring diagram to test sensor A’s reference, ground, and signal circuits for continuity and unwanted resistance or shorts.
  5. If wiring and connections pass, compare sensor A’s output with the manufacturer’s specification and assess whether the sensor has drifted.

Common fixes

  • Reseat and secure the motor B inverter voltage sensor A connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or restore a poor ground or reference connection.
  • Correct a displaced sensor mounting if the manufacturer permits adjustment.
  • Replace the out-of-calibration sensor A if its signal fails the specified test.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid relying on electric drive or attempting long trips while power is reduced or the warning is active. The vehicle may enter limp mode or shut down, so arrange prompt diagnosis and stop safely if propulsion becomes unreliable.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
