What it means
The voltage sensor A of the electric A/C compressor motor reports a generic fault. Compressor voltage feedback unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The electric A/C compressor uses voltage feedback from sensor A so its control system can manage compressor operation. This code sets when the module detects a general fault in that sensor’s circuit and cannot trust the reported motor voltage.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Voltage sensor failed
- Wiring fault
Symptoms
- A/C warning light may come on
- Air conditioning may provide little or no cooling
- A/C operation may be limited or disabled
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and read A/C compressor voltage sensor A live data to see whether the fault is present and what operating conditions triggered it.
- With the vehicle safely powered down as specified by the manufacturer, inspect sensor A’s connector and harness for loose pins, corrosion, chafing, or damage.
- Check the sensor’s power, ground, and signal wiring for continuity and shorts using the vehicle wiring diagram.
- Measure sensor A’s output under the conditions in the service information and compare it with the manufacturer’s specification.
- If wiring and connections check out, test the voltage sensor and related compressor control components according to the manufacturer’s procedure.
Common fixes
- Reseat and secure the sensor A connector.
- Repair damaged or corroded sensor wiring or terminals.
- Restore the sensor’s power or ground connection if testing identifies a fault.
- Replace voltage sensor A if its output fails the specified test.
Can I keep driving?
The fault may disable or limit electric A/C compressor operation, leaving the cabin with little or no cooling. Driving is generally possible if the vehicle has no other warnings or drivability problems, but avoid relying on A/C for defogging and address the fault promptly.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
