What it means
Battery charger input current is below the expected range under the monitored conditions.
How it works
The battery charger monitors how much current it draws at its input during charging. P0D29 sets when input current is below the expected range for the monitored conditions, which may leave charging slow or incomplete.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Charging supply or connection fault
- Battery charger fault
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame and live input-current data to establish when the reading fell low and whether the charger was requesting normal operation.
- Inspect the charging plug and inlet for a loose fit, contamination, corrosion, or visible damage that could restrict the supply.
- Try a known suitable charging supply, if available, to see whether low input current is specific to one supply or connection.
- Check for related input-voltage or charger codes and inspect accessible input wiring for damage or poor contact.
- Measure input current and test charger operation using the manufacturer's procedure and specification.
Common fixes
- Reconnect the charging plug securely and clean the connection only as the manufacturer permits.
- Repair damaged or corroded input wiring or terminals.
- Correct a charging supply or connection fault identified during testing.
- Replace the charger if its input-current operation is confirmed faulty.
Can I keep driving?
The vehicle may charge slowly or fail to gain enough range, so verify the charge level before setting out. If charging repeatedly cuts out or the connector becomes hot, stop using that connection until it is checked.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
