OBD-II fault code

P0D03: Control Pilot Charging Ventilation Switch Circuit High

What it means

The control pilot charging ventilation switch reports a circuit high condition. Charging ventilation requirement signal compromised (used for indoor charging).

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The control pilot charging ventilation switch tells the charging system whether its ventilation condition is satisfied. This code sets when the module detects a signal higher than expected, which can result from a short to voltage or an open switch circuit and can disrupt charging authorization.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Charging ventilation switch circuit shorted to voltage
  2. Open or faulty switch circuit component

Symptoms

  • Charge status indicator shows fault
  • Charging may not start or interrupts
  • Slower-than-expected charge rate

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and check charging live data for the ventilation switch signal and reported state when the high condition was detected.
  2. Inspect the switch connector and harness for corrosion, backed-out pins, broken wires, or contact with a voltage source.
  3. Check whether operating the ventilation switch changes its reported state, following the manufacturer’s service information.
  4. With the charging circuit safely isolated, test for an open switch circuit or a short to voltage using the manufacturer’s procedure.
  5. Compare connector and circuit measurements with the manufacturer’s specification before suspecting the charging control module.

Common fixes

  • Reseat or clean a loose or corroded ventilation switch connector.
  • Repair wiring shorted to voltage or an open in the switch circuit.
  • Replace the ventilation switch if it fails its specified operation test.
  • Repair or replace the charging control module only if the switch and wiring test correctly.

Can I keep driving?

Driving is generally possible if there are no other warnings, but charging may not start or may be interrupted. Do not bypass the ventilation signal or depend on a charge session until the fault is repaired.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
