What it means
The hybrid electronics coolant pump A reports a performance condition. Power electronics cooling may be impaired.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Electronics coolant pump A moves coolant through the hybrid or EV power electronics loop to carry heat away. P0CEA sets when the pump runs but its coolant flow or cooling effect does not meet the expected performance, which can leave the electronics too warm.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Pump output degraded
- Air pocket in coolant loop
Symptoms
- Hybrid or EV system warning light on
- Reduced power or limited vehicle operation
- Cooling-system warning may appear
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and scan-tool pump commands and temperature readings to determine when pump A performance falls short.
- With the vehicle powered down as required by the manufacturer's high-voltage safety procedure, inspect the electronics cooling loop for visible leaks, low coolant, or signs of restricted flow.
- Check for trapped air in the loop and follow the manufacturer's procedure for filling or bleeding it.
- Verify that pump A receives its commanded operation and assess coolant circulation using the manufacturer's specified checks.
- If coolant level, air, and circuit operation are satisfactory, test pump A's flow or output against the manufacturer's performance criteria.
Common fixes
- Correct low coolant caused by a leak, then repair the leak and refill as specified.
- Bleed trapped air from the electronics coolant loop using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Repair a restriction that is limiting flow through the loop.
- Replace electronics coolant pump A if its output is degraded.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid hard acceleration, steep climbs, and continued driving if a cooling warning or reduced power appears; inadequate flow can overheat power electronics and trigger stronger power limits. Stop safely if the warning persists or power is restricted.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
