What it means
The signals of the HV battery temperature sensors E and F do not correlate within the calibrated tolerance.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The HV battery control system compares temperature sensor E with sensor F for a plausible reading relationship. This code sets when their difference is outside the calibrated tolerance, making the battery temperature estimate less dependable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Faulty battery temperature sensor E or F
- Damaged wiring or poor connection in a sensor circuit
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame information with a hybrid-capable scan tool and compare live temperatures from sensors E and F with other battery sensors.
- With the HV system safely shut down, inspect the E and F sensor connectors and accessible harnesses for corrosion, looseness, pin damage, or abrasion.
- Check live data for an E or F reading that is fixed, erratic, or inconsistent with surrounding battery temperatures.
- Test the E and F sensor circuits for opens, shorts, and poor connections using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's procedure.
- If both circuits pass, test sensors E and F individually against the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Reseat or repair the loose or damaged connector at sensor E or F.
- Repair damaged or corroded wiring in the E/F sensor circuits.
- Replace the sensor E or F that fails its individual test.
- Clear the code and verify the E/F temperature relationship using the manufacturer's procedure.
Can I keep driving?
The vehicle may reduce power or limit charging because sensors E and F disagree about battery temperature. Avoid heavy loads and unattended charging until the fault is checked; stop safely if power is restricted.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
