OBD-II fault code

P0C6B: Generator Position Sensor Circuit B Circuit Low

What it means

The generator position sensor B circuit signal is below the expected level. This indicates a low signal in that circuit; the cause depends on the vehicle.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The generator position sensor's B circuit carries rotor-position information to the hybrid or electric drive control system. P0C6B sets when the circuit B signal falls below the expected electrical level, which can result from a short to ground, an internally shorted sensor, or resistive corrosion at the connector.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to ground
  2. Internal sensor short
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV system warning light on
  • Reduced power or limited vehicle operation

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame and live data for circuit B and note whether the low reading coincides with a hybrid warning or reduced-power event.
  2. Inspect the circuit B connector and harness for corrosion, water intrusion, chafing, or a wire contacting ground, following the manufacturer's high-voltage and power-down precautions.
  3. Use the wiring diagram to check circuit B supply and ground integrity, then measure its signal as specified by the manufacturer to confirm the low condition.
  4. With power isolated as required, test circuit B for a short to ground and check connector terminals for excessive resistance or poor contact.
  5. If the wiring and terminals pass, test the sensor itself against the manufacturer's specification for an internal short.

Common fixes

  • Clean or replace corroded circuit B connector terminals and restore a sound connection.
  • Repair circuit B wiring shorted to ground.
  • Replace the generator position sensor if it is internally shorted.
  • Clear the code and confirm circuit B signal returns to the specified range under the original operating conditions.

Can I keep driving?

Reduced power or limited operation is possible, so avoid high-speed roads, steep grades, and trips that depend on full power. If power drops or a hybrid/EV warning appears, pull over safely; continued driving may worsen the loss of drive capability.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
