OBD-II fault code

P0C60: Drive Motor B Position Sensor Circuit B Range/Performance

What it means

The position sensor channel B of drive motor B reports a range/performance fault. Phase commutation feedback impaired on this channel.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Drive Motor B's position sensor channel B provides rotor-position feedback used to time motor phase switching. P0C60 sets when the module receives a channel B signal that is present but outside the expected range or inconsistent with motor operation.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor mechanically offset
  2. Electrical noise on signal line
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and related hybrid or EV codes to identify motor speed, load, and conditions when Drive Motor B channel B went out of range.
  2. Compare live channel B position data with other available Drive Motor B position or speed data as the motor changes speed, following the manufacturer's procedure.
  3. Inspect the channel B sensor mounting and connector for looseness, movement, damage, or contamination that could shift the reading.
  4. Check the channel B signal harness and ground routing for poor connections, damage, or exposure to electrical interference.
  5. If the signal remains out of range with sound wiring and mounting, test sensor alignment and output against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Secure a loose Drive Motor B channel B sensor or connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or a poor ground connection affecting channel B.
  • Correct sensor mounting or alignment if it is outside the manufacturer's procedure.
  • Replace the channel B sensor if its output remains outside the specified calibration range.

Can I keep driving?

Reduced torque, limp mode, or shutdown can follow this fault, so avoid demanding acceleration and trips where loss of propulsion would be risky. Stop safely if the vehicle's power becomes unpredictable and have the fault checked promptly.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
