OBD-II fault code

P0C47: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Coolant Pump A Control Circuit/Open

What it means

The HV battery pack coolant pump A reports a control circuit/open condition. Battery thermal management may be impaired.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Battery-pack coolant pump A circulates coolant through the hybrid or EV battery thermal-management system. The module monitors pump A's control circuit and sets P0C47 when it detects an open circuit, which can prevent the pump from operating and impair battery cooling.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open or damaged pump control wiring
  2. Faulty coolant pump
  3. Poor connector connection

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and check for related battery cooling or pump codes; use live data or the scan tool's supported command to see whether pump A is requested to run.
  2. With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, inspect pump A's connector for a loose fit, corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back pins.
  3. Check accessible pump A control wiring for breaks, chafing, or damage that could leave the circuit open.
  4. Test continuity through the control circuit and its connections using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and procedure.
  5. If the wiring and connector pass, test pump A and its control driver according to the manufacturer's specification to locate the open condition.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect and secure a loose pump A connector.
  • Repair an open or damaged pump A control wire.
  • Repair or replace corroded or displaced connector terminals.
  • Replace pump A if it fails the manufacturer's test.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid heavy loads and charging while the warning is active because battery cooling may be reduced. If the vehicle enters limp mode or displays a battery-temperature warning, stop safely and seek service before continuing.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
