OBD-II fault code

P0C00: Drive Motor A Current Low

What it means

Electrical fault on the drive motor electric coolant pump control output. Without flow, motor and inverter overheat under load.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Drive Motor A's electric coolant pump circulates coolant through the motor and inverter to carry away heat. The control module monitors the pump's electrical output or current and sets P0C00 when it detects less current than expected, which can indicate a failed pump or an open circuit.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Pump electrically failed
  2. Wiring open

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and hybrid-system live data for the pump command, reported current, and motor or inverter temperatures to see when the low-current fault occurs.
  2. With the vehicle powered down according to its service instructions, inspect Drive Motor A's coolant pump connector and wiring for damage, loose connections, or corrosion.
  3. Check whether the pump operates when commanded using the vehicle's supported scan-tool function, and listen or feel for signs of operation without touching high-voltage components.
  4. Have the pump circuit checked for an open using the manufacturer's isolation and measurement procedures.
  5. If wiring and connections are intact, test the pump and its control output against the manufacturer's specification before replacing either.

Common fixes

  • Repair a loose, damaged, or corroded pump connector.
  • Repair an open in the pump wiring.
  • Replace the failed electric coolant pump.
  • Repair the pump control output if testing confirms an output fault.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid hard acceleration and long or steep drives because inadequate coolant flow can overheat Drive Motor A or its inverter. Reduced power or a shutdown may follow; stop safely if a temperature warning appears or power drops sharply.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
