What it means
The current sensor A of the 14V DC/DC converter module reports a circuit intermittent fault. 12V system current measurement is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Current sensor A in the 14-volt power module measures current in the DC/DC converter's 12-volt system. The module monitors whether that signal remains consistent with system operation. P0A8A sets when the sensor circuit signal drops out or changes intermittently, often with vibration or a poor connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Current sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Symptoms
- Check-engine or hybrid-system warning light
- 12-volt charging warning light
- Intermittent electrical issues
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check stored or pending codes and live current sensor A data for dropouts or changes around the fault.
- Check the 12-volt battery and charging status, noting whether electrical symptoms occur at the same time as the code.
- Inspect the sensor connector and harness for loose pins, corrosion, chafing, or damage that could open the circuit intermittently.
- Following the manufacturer's procedure, monitor the sensor signal while carefully checking the accessible harness and connector for a change.
- If the wiring remains stable, test current sensor A and the 14-volt power module for intermittent failure.
Common fixes
- Reseat and secure a connector with intermittent contact.
- Clean corrosion and repair loose or damaged connector pins.
- Repair chafed or broken wiring in the sensor circuit.
- Replace current sensor A or repair the power module if testing reproduces the intermittent fault there.
Can I keep driving?
Intermittent charging measurements can precede a weak 12-volt battery or sudden electrical problems, so avoid long trips if warnings or flickering occur. Stop driving if essential systems are affected or the vehicle begins losing electrical power, and have the fault diagnosed promptly.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
