OBD-II fault code

P094C: Hydraulic Pump Performance/Stuck Off

What it means

The hydraulic pump reports a performance/stuck off condition. Pump operation is impaired.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The hydraulic pump creates pressure needed for the transmission to shift. P094C sets when the control module detects that the pump is not operating or its performance is too weak, so the system cannot produce the expected hydraulic support; a seized motor, failed relay, or restricted pump can cause this.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Pump motor seized
  2. Pump relay failed
  3. Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement

Symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and check live data for the pump command, pump status, and any pressure or performance feedback available.
  2. Inspect the pump fuse, relay, connectors, and wiring for a blown fuse, corrosion, loose terminals, or heat damage.
  3. Check whether the pump receives the commanded power and ground using the vehicle’s wiring information.
  4. Test the relay and its control circuit to determine whether the pump is being powered when requested.
  5. If supply and control are intact, check the pump motor for seizure and inspect for carbon or debris restricting movement.

Common fixes

  • Repair a loose, corroded, or damaged pump connector or wire.
  • Replace a failed pump relay or fuse after checking for the cause of fuse failure.
  • Free or clean a pump mechanism restricted by debris, where serviceable.
  • Replace a seized hydraulic pump motor.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid driving if shifts are delayed, missing, slipping, or the transmission enters limp mode; inadequate hydraulic pressure can worsen transmission damage. If shifting remains normal, drive only as needed to reach a safe place for diagnosis.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
