What it means
Open circuit at the gear shift lock solenoid which prevents shifting out of Park without brake pedal pressed.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Circuit A supplies or controls the gear-shift lock solenoid that helps keep the selector in Park until the brake pedal is pressed. P0930 indicates the module sees circuit A voltage too low, commonly because the solenoid coil or wiring is open or a connector pin has backed out.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Solenoid coil open
- Wiring open
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check for related shift-lock codes before clearing the fault.
- Press the brake and test whether the selector can leave Park, noting whether the interlock behaves differently when the fault is present.
- Inspect circuit A connectors for a pushed-back pin, poor terminal fit, corrosion, or a disconnected plug.
- Trace circuit A wiring for a break or damage, especially near the shift-lock assembly and moving selector parts.
- Test circuit A continuity and the solenoid coil against the manufacturer's specification.
- If continuity is intermittent, monitor the circuit while gently moving the harness and connector.
Common fixes
- Reseat a backed-out circuit A connector pin or secure a loose plug.
- Repair a break in circuit A wiring.
- Replace the circuit A solenoid if its coil is open.
Can I keep driving?
Do not force the selector if it will not leave Park. If the selector releases and the vehicle shifts normally, limit driving to necessary trips and arrange a prompt repair because the interlock may stop working consistently.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
