OBD-II fault code

P0663: Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Control Circuit Open Bank 2

What it means

The control line of the IMT valve on bank 2 is open - the ECU cannot drive the valve. The intake manifold runner control (IMRC) flaps tune intake geometry for filling efficiency across the rpm range; stuck flaps cost part-load torque and can set lean codes.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The intake manifold tuning valve on Bank 2 changes the intake runner path to suit engine speed and load. This code sets when the control module detects an open in the Bank 2 valve’s control circuit, interrupting the electrical path needed to operate the valve.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open in valve or wiring
  2. Pin pushed back out of connector body
  3. Cracked solder joint inside the module or sensor

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Possible limp mode or no-start
  • Multiple follow-up faults across modules
  • Reset/relearn may be needed after repair

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan for related intake-valve or electrical faults, then check live data for the Bank 2 valve command and any available position feedback.
  2. Identify Bank 2 from the vehicle’s service information and inspect its actuator connector and harness for a loose plug, broken wire, pushed-back pin, or corrosion.
  3. Check the Bank 2 valve and linkage for physical damage or binding, while keeping the circuit fault in mind as the valve may not move when commanded.
  4. Use the wiring diagram to test continuity through the Bank 2 control circuit and check for a poor terminal fit at the connector.
  5. If wiring and terminals are intact, test the actuator and control-module output according to the manufacturer’s procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect the Bank 2 actuator plug or restore a pushed-back terminal.
  • Repair an open or damaged wire in the Bank 2 valve-control circuit.
  • Repair a poor connector contact or damaged terminal.
  • Replace the Bank 2 actuator or repair the module output only if circuit testing confirms that component is faulty.

Can I keep driving?

A short, gentle trip may be possible if the engine runs normally, but the Bank 2 valve may remain in one position and reduce performance or efficiency. Avoid hard acceleration if power is reduced, and stop if the engine runs poorly or other serious warnings appear.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
