What it means
Same as P0660 with the control line shorted to supply. The intake manifold runner control (IMRC) flaps tune intake geometry for filling efficiency across the rpm range; stuck flaps cost part-load torque and can set lean codes.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The intake manifold tuning valve on Bank 1 changes the intake runner path to suit engine speed and load. This code sets when the control module detects that the Bank 1 valve-control circuit voltage is higher than expected, often because the control wire is shorted to a supply voltage.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control line shorted to supply
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Supply wire pinched against B+ source
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Possible limp mode or no-start
- Multiple follow-up faults across modules
- Reset/relearn may be needed after repair
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and scan for related intake-valve faults, then check live data for the Bank 1 valve command and any circuit status the scan tool provides.
- Identify Bank 1 from the vehicle’s service information and inspect the actuator connector and harness for pinched insulation, contact with a power source, corrosion, or loose terminals.
- Check the Bank 1 tuning valve and linkage for binding, while treating the high circuit signal as an electrical fault to trace separately.
- Use the wiring diagram to test the control circuit for a short to supply and inspect connector terminals using the manufacturer’s procedure.
- If the wiring and connector pass, test the actuator and module control output against the manufacturer’s specification.
Common fixes
- Repair Bank 1 valve-control wiring shorted against a supply wire or power source.
- Repair or replace a damaged connector or terminal that is allowing an unintended supply connection.
- Replace a failed Bank 1 actuator if testing confirms it is causing the high circuit signal.
- Repair the module output only if the circuit and actuator test correctly.
Can I keep driving?
A short, gentle trip may be possible if the engine runs normally, but the Bank 1 valve may remain inactive and reduce performance or efficiency. Avoid hard acceleration if power is reduced, and stop if the engine runs poorly or other serious warnings appear.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
