What it means
Same as P0580 on input B. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The cruise-control module monitors input B from the multifunction switch or stalk to detect the driver's cruise commands. This code sets when the input B signal is lower than the expected range, often because the circuit is shorted to ground or has excessive resistance at a connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal shorted to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- Cruise-control buttons may not respond
- Cruise control unavailable or intermittent
- Check-engine light
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check input B live data with the cruise controls released and operated to confirm the low signal condition.
- Inspect input B wiring and connector seals for chafing, water intrusion, corrosion, or pins pushed back from their normal position.
- Check that the cruise-control switch connector is fully seated and that its terminals grip the mating pins securely.
- Using the wiring diagram, test input B for a short to ground and check continuity and connection resistance according to the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the harness and switch pass, check the cruise-control module connector and input circuit before replacing the module.
Common fixes
- Dry, clean, and reconnect a water-affected or corroded input B connector.
- Repair chafed wiring or terminals shorted to ground.
- Restore pushed-back or loose connector pins.
- Replace a faulty switch if its input B output is low with a verified good harness.
- Repair or replace the cruise-control module if its input circuit fails the manufacturer's checks.
Can I keep driving?
Driving without cruise control is generally possible, but do not rely on cruise commands until the low input fault is repaired. Control speed manually and watch for intermittent cruise operation.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
