What it means
Cruise Control Multi-Function Input B Circuit: an electrical fault is present in the circuit. This affects cruise-control operation.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The cruise-control module reads input B from the multifunction switch or stalk to identify the driver's cruise-control commands. This code sets when the input B circuit has an electrical fault that prevents reliable command detection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Faulty cruise-control switch or stalk
- Damaged or corroded wiring or connectors
- Poor electrical connection
- Fault in the cruise-control module
Symptoms
- Cruise-control buttons may not respond
- Cruise control unavailable or intermittent
- Check-engine light
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check cruise-control switch inputs on a scan tool to see whether input B changes when the relevant control is operated.
- Inspect the cruise-control switch or stalk and its connector for damage, corrosion, looseness, or signs of a poor contact.
- Trace the input B wiring toward the cruise-control module and look for chafing, pinched sections, or damaged connector seals.
- With the wiring diagram, check input B circuit continuity and for unintended shorts, following the manufacturer's test procedure.
- If the switch and wiring pass, check the cruise-control module's power, ground, connector condition, and input response before considering module replacement.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or clean a loose or corroded switch or harness connector.
- Repair damaged wiring or connector terminals in the input B circuit.
- Replace a faulty cruise-control switch or stalk.
- Repair or replace the cruise-control module if its input circuit is confirmed faulty.
Can I keep driving?
You can generally drive without cruise control, but do not rely on it until the fault is fixed. Be prepared to control speed manually, especially on long journeys.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
