OBD-II fault code

P0568: Cruise Control Set Signal

What it means

Cruise Control Set Input Circuit: an electrical fault is present in the circuit. This affects cruise-control operation.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The cruise-control set switch sends a signal asking the control module to hold the vehicle at the selected speed. P0568 sets when the set input circuit has an electrical fault, preventing the module from reliably recognizing that command.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Cruise control set switch or stalk failed
  2. Open or short in switch wiring
  3. Loose or corroded connector
  4. Fault in the related control module

Symptoms

  • Cruise control may not set a speed
  • Cruise control may not engage or may stop working
  • Check-engine light may come on

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and related cruise-control codes to see when the set input fault was recorded.
  2. Watch the set status in scan-tool live data while operating the set switch or stalk to check whether the command registers.
  3. Inspect the set switch, connector, and steering-column wiring for looseness, corrosion, chafing, or visible damage.
  4. Test the set switch contacts and circuit for an open, short, or intermittent connection using the vehicle wiring diagram.
  5. If the switch and circuit pass, check the related control module input, power, and grounds according to the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Clean and reconnect a loose or corroded set-switch connector.
  • Repair a damaged, open, or shorted wire in the set input circuit.
  • Replace a failed cruise-control set switch or stalk.
  • Repair the related control module or its connections if circuit tests point to a module-side fault.

Can I keep driving?

You can usually drive without cruise control, but it may not set or hold speed. Avoid using cruise control until the set command works consistently.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
