OBD-II fault code

P0570: Cruise Control Accel Signal Malfunction

What it means

The cruise control accelerate input signal is implausible — switch contacts welded, wiring fault, or stalk defect. The ECU disables cruise control to prevent unintended acceleration.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The cruise-control accelerate input asks the system to raise the set speed or accelerate while cruise is active. The control module monitors the switch signal and sets this code when it is implausible, such as when contacts remain active or the signal does not match the driver's command; cruise may then be disabled to prevent an unintended response.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Cruise switch contacts faulty
  2. Wiring or connector fault

Symptoms

  • Cruise control may not accelerate to the set speed
  • Cruise control may not engage or may stop working
  • Cruise control may respond unexpectedly to the accelerate command
  • Check-engine light may come on

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and monitor the accelerate input on a scan tool while operating the cruise switch; confirm the signal changes only when commanded.
  2. Check whether cruise engages and whether the set speed responds to the accelerate command in a safe, legal test environment.
  3. Inspect the cruise switch or stalk for sticking, physical damage, or contamination.
  4. Check the switch connector and wiring for corrosion, loose pins, chafing, open circuits, or shorts.
  5. Test the switch contacts and signal circuit against the manufacturer's specification before investigating the control module.

Common fixes

  • Free or clean a sticking accelerate switch or stalk where appropriate.
  • Reconnect or clean a loose or corroded switch connector.
  • Repair damaged, open, or shorted wiring in the accelerate-input circuit.
  • Replace the faulty cruise switch or stalk.
  • Repair or replace the related control module if testing confirms an internal fault.

Can I keep driving?

Do not use cruise control while the accelerate input may respond unexpectedly or fail to behave predictably. Drive manually and have the switch circuit checked before using cruise again.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
