OBD-II fault code

P0206: Cylinder 6 Injector A Circuit/Open

What it means

The PCM detected an open or electrical fault in the cylinder 6 injector A circuit. The code does not establish that the ECU disables the injector or that a misfire code will also set.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The PCM switches the cylinder 6 injector circuit to control fuel delivery to cylinder 6. P0206 means it detected an open or other electrical fault in the cylinder 6 injector A circuit; it does not by itself show that the injector is disabled or that a misfire code will be stored.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Injector winding failed open
  2. Wiring or connector fault

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Rough running or engine misfire
  • Reduced engine power
  • Hard starting or stalling

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan for cylinder 6 misfire or related circuit codes to see what conditions were present when the fault set.
  2. Locate cylinder 6 using the vehicle's cylinder identification information and inspect the injector connector and wiring for looseness, corrosion, chafing, or heat damage.
  3. Check the cylinder 6 injector connector and compare its winding resistance with the manufacturer's specification.
  4. With the wiring diagram, test the cylinder 6 injector power and control circuits for opens, shorts, and poor connections.
  5. If the injector and its wiring pass, have the PCM's cylinder 6 injector driver checked.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean the cylinder 6 injector connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring in the cylinder 6 injector circuit.
  • Replace the cylinder 6 injector if electrical testing confirms a winding fault.
  • Repair or replace the PCM if its cylinder 6 injector driver is confirmed faulty.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid driving if the engine misfires, runs roughly, stalls, or loses power, as the fault can worsen drivability and emissions. If it runs normally, keep trips limited until the cylinder 6 circuit is diagnosed.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
