What it means
Cylinder 2 Injector Circuit Low: the signal voltage is below the expected range. This affects fueling of the associated cylinders.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The engine control module switches and monitors the electrical circuit for the cylinder 2 fuel injector. This code sets when the circuit signal is lower than the module expects, which can prevent the injector from delivering the right amount of fuel to cylinder 2.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Injector winding failed open
- Wiring or connector fault
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light on
- Rough running or misfire
- Reduced engine power
- Hard starting
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame data and cylinder-specific misfire or fuel-trim data to see when cylinder 2 began running poorly.
- Inspect the cylinder 2 injector connector and nearby wiring for corrosion, loose pins, damage, or contact with hot or moving parts.
- With the ignition off, check the cylinder 2 injector winding for an open circuit and compare it with the manufacturer's specification.
- Check connector pin fit and continuity through the cylinder 2 injector wiring, including for excessive resistance or an intermittent open.
- If the wiring and injector pass, use the vehicle wiring diagram and a suitable scan tool or circuit test to check the module's cylinder 2 injector control output.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose cylinder 2 injector connector pins.
- Repair damaged or high-resistance wiring in the cylinder 2 injector circuit.
- Replace the cylinder 2 injector if its winding is open or outside the manufacturer's specification.
- Repair the injector control circuit or module only after confirming the wiring and injector are sound.
Can I keep driving?
A short, gentle drive may be possible if the engine runs smoothly, but avoid heavy acceleration and long trips. If it misfires badly, loses power, or is hard to start, stop driving; continued misfiring can damage the catalytic converter.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
