What it means
Turbocharger outlet pressure sensor A circuit signal is below the expected range.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Turbocharger outlet pressure sensor A measures post-compressor pressure and sends a signal to the control module. This code is set when that signal is lower than the module expects, which can result from a signal wire shorted to ground, poor connector contact, or chafed wiring.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check whether sensor A's outlet-pressure value is unusually low compared with other pressure readings for those conditions.
- Inspect sensor A's connector and harness, especially for corrosion, loose pins, or insulation worn through where the wiring may touch ground.
- Use the wiring diagram to check the sensor supply and ground, then test the signal wire for a short to ground.
- Measure the signal and circuit continuity against the manufacturer's specification to separate a wiring short from a sensor fault.
- If the electrical circuit tests correctly, inspect the sensor's pressure opening and outlet pressure path for blockage or a leak.
Common fixes
- Repair chafed signal wiring or a signal wire shorted to ground.
- Clean corroded connector pins and restore secure terminal contact.
- Repair or replace damaged harness sections and secure them away from rubbing points.
- Replace turbocharger outlet pressure sensor A if the circuit is sound but its signal remains low.
Can I keep driving?
The check-engine light may be the only symptom, but a falsely low outlet-pressure signal can affect boost control. Avoid hard acceleration if power is reduced or boost behavior is abnormal, and arrange diagnosis soon.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
