What it means
Low fuel pressure has caused the control module to request or apply limited power.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The low-pressure fuel supply feeds the engine’s high-pressure fuel system or injectors. The control module detects fuel pressure too low for the engine’s demand and responds by requesting or applying limited power. P00BA identifies that low-pressure condition together with the power-limiting response.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Low-pressure fuel supply or pump problem
- Restricted fuel filter or line
- Fuel pressure regulator or sensor fault
- Fuel pump wiring or connector problem
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard start, no start, or stalling under load
- Power loss especially at high load or rpm
- Possible long cranking time
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and related fuel-pressure codes to see whether the pressure drop occurred during starting, acceleration, or high engine load.
- Inspect the low-pressure fuel lines, filter, pump connector, and wiring for restrictions, leaks, damage, or poor connections.
- Compare commanded and measured low-side pressure in live data during priming, cranking, and a controlled increase in engine load.
- Check the fuel pressure sensor reading and its wiring for implausible or intermittent values, using the manufacturer's specification.
- If the sensor signal is credible, test low-pressure pump delivery and the regulator or supply circuit against the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose or corroded pump connector or damaged wiring.
- Replace a restricted fuel filter or repair a blocked or damaged fuel line.
- Replace a faulty pressure sensor or regulator after confirming its readings or operation are out of specification.
- Replace a weak low-pressure fuel pump if pressure or delivery remains inadequate.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid high-load driving and do not rely on the vehicle for overtaking or merging if power is limited. If it stalls, will not start, or loses power unpredictably, stop in a safe place; continued operation can worsen drivability and risk being stranded.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
