What it means
The control module detects a circuit-low condition in the Bank 1 charge air cooler temperature sensor circuit.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The bank 1 charge air cooler temperature sensor reports the temperature of compressed intake air after the cooler. P007C means the control module sees a low electrical signal from that sensor circuit, commonly because the signal wire is shorted to ground or the circuit is otherwise pulled low.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Reduced engine performance or boost
- Poor fuel economy
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare the reported charge air cooler temperature with ambient and other intake-temperature readings for an implausibly low signal.
- Inspect the bank 1 sensor connector and harness for chafing, crushed insulation, corrosion, or a wire touching ground.
- Use the wiring diagram to test the sensor signal circuit for a short to ground, following the manufacturer's procedure.
- Check terminal condition and circuit continuity for damaged or corroded connections that could pull the signal low.
- Test the sensor against the manufacturer's specification and replace it only if the wiring passes and the sensor output remains low.
Common fixes
- Repair the bank 1 sensor signal wire if it is shorted to ground.
- Clean or replace corroded or damaged connector terminals.
- Repair chafed or crushed sensor wiring.
- Replace the bank 1 charge air cooler temperature sensor if it fails testing.
Can I keep driving?
The engine may reduce boost or power, so avoid towing, hard acceleration, and situations that require rapid passing. Stop if reduced power makes it unsafe to keep up with traffic.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
