What it means
The control module detects an electrical fault in the Bank 1 charge air cooler temperature sensor circuit.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The bank 1 charge air cooler temperature sensor measures the temperature of compressed intake air after it passes through the charge air cooler. The control module monitors the sensor circuit and sets P007A when it detects an electrical fault, such as an open or short, rather than a specific temperature plausibility problem.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Charge air cooler temperature sensor failed
- Damaged wiring or connector
- Poor electrical connection
- Sensor circuit open or shorted
Symptoms
- Check-engine light on
- Reduced engine power
- Poor acceleration
- Turbocharged engine may enter reduced-power mode
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare the scan-tool charge air cooler temperature with other available intake-temperature readings under similar conditions.
- Locate the bank 1 charge air cooler temperature sensor and inspect its connector, terminals, and harness for looseness, moisture, corrosion, or damage.
- Use the wiring diagram to check the sensor signal and reference circuits for opens or shorts, following the manufacturer's procedure.
- Check connector terminal fit and circuit continuity before condemning the sensor.
- Test the bank 1 sensor against the manufacturer's specification and replace it if its electrical output is faulty.
Common fixes
- Reconnect and secure the bank 1 charge air cooler temperature sensor.
- Repair corroded terminals or damaged wiring in the sensor circuit.
- Correct an open or short in the signal or reference circuit.
- Replace the bank 1 charge air cooler temperature sensor if it fails testing.
Can I keep driving?
The engine may limit boost or power, so avoid heavy acceleration, towing, and steep climbs if performance is reduced. Stop if power loss makes it unsafe to keep pace with traffic.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
