OBD-II fault code

P006D: Barometric Pressure - Turbocharger/Supercharger Inlet Pressure Correlation Bank 1

What it means

The control module detects that barometric pressure and turbocharger or supercharger inlet pressure do not correlate as expected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The barometric pressure sensor reports surrounding air pressure, while the turbocharger or supercharger inlet pressure sensor reports pressure at the forced-induction inlet on bank 1. The control module sets P006D when the readings do not correlate as expected, potentially due to a sensor, wiring, leak, or restriction.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Barometric pressure or turbocharger inlet-pressure sensor or wiring fault
  2. Air leak or restriction affecting the pressure readings

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Possible reduced engine power

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and compare barometric and bank 1 inlet pressure readings in live data.
  2. With the engine off, check whether the two readings are reasonably consistent with local atmospheric pressure.
  3. Inspect the bank 1 forced-induction inlet duct for a leak, loose joint, blockage, or other restriction.
  4. Check the barometric and inlet pressure sensor connectors and wiring for corrosion, damage, or loose pins.
  5. Test each sensor's response and circuit against the manufacturer's specification to identify which reading is implausible.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect a loose bank 1 inlet duct joint.
  • Repair a leaking or restricted inlet duct.
  • Repair damaged wiring or corroded terminals at the affected sensor.
  • Replace a sensor only if it fails the manufacturer's checks.

Can I keep driving?

If the vehicle drives normally, limit acceleration and load until the fault is diagnosed. Stop if power is reduced or engine operation becomes unstable, since incorrect inlet pressure information can affect boost control.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
