What it means
Active air dam actuator control voltage below expected range. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
How it works
The active air dam actuator moves the front air dam to its commanded position, and the control module monitors the actuator control voltage. This code sets when that voltage is below the expected range, often because the control wire is shorted to ground or the connection has excessive resistance.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Wiring shorted to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- Active air dam warning light may be on
- Active air dam may remain in its current position
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame data and live air dam circuit readings, and note whether the low voltage occurred during an actuator command.
- Inspect the actuator connector and harness for chafing through to ground, water, corrosion, or loose terminals.
- Watch the circuit reading while gently moving the accessible harness to see whether it changes with harness position.
- Using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's procedure, test the control circuit for a short to ground and check connector contact and wiring continuity.
- If the wiring is sound, test the air dam actuator and control module output according to the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair harness insulation where the control wire is contacting ground.
- Clean or repair corroded or loose actuator connector terminals.
- Repair damaged wiring or restore a poor control circuit connection.
- Replace a confirmed faulty actuator or control module.
Can I keep driving?
The air dam may remain in its current position and its warning light may stay on; aerodynamic adjustment may be unavailable. Check that no part is loose or dragging, and avoid driving if it could contact the road.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
