OBD-II fault code

C05B7: Brake Booster Temperature Sensor C Circuit Intermittent/Erratic

What it means

The brake control module monitors the signal from brake booster temperature sensor C for continuity and plausibility. It sets this code when the signal is intermittent or fluctuates outside the expected range.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light

How it works

Brake booster temperature sensor C sends a changing temperature signal to the brake control module. This code sets when that signal cuts in and out or fluctuates erratically instead of remaining plausible. A loose connector, vibration-sensitive contact, or harness rubbing against a vibrating component can interrupt the signal intermittently.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Connector loose
  2. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
  3. Harness routed against vibrating component

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light on
  • ESC/stability control deactivated
  • Possible reduced brake assist
  • Speedometer may behave erratically

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame and fault history, then watch sensor C live data to see whether the signal drops out or jumps.
  2. Inspect the sensor C connector for a loose lock, corrosion, or terminals that may lose contact under vibration.
  3. Follow the sensor C harness and look for rubbing, chafing, or routing against a vibrating part.
  4. With the vehicle safely stationary, gently move the connector and harness while monitoring the scan-tool signal for dropouts.
  5. If the fault persists, check circuit continuity and terminal fit using the manufacturer's procedure, then test sensor C.

Common fixes

  • Secure a loose sensor C connector and its locking tab.
  • Repair chafed wiring and route the harness away from vibrating parts.
  • Clean or replace terminals with intermittent contact.
  • Replace sensor C if it has an intermittent internal fault after wiring checks.

Can I keep driving?

The fault may cause ABS or stability control to become unavailable, and brake assist may be reduced. Drive cautiously only while braking feels normal, and stop if pedal feel changes or a warning indicates braking is impaired.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
