OBD-II fault code

C05B5: Brake Booster Temperature Sensor C Circuit/Open

What it means

The brake control module monitors the electrical circuit for brake booster temperature sensor C. It sets this code when the circuit is detected as open, so the sensor signal is unavailable.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light

How it works

Brake booster temperature sensor C provides its signal to the brake control module through a dedicated electrical circuit. This code sets when the module detects an open circuit and cannot receive the sensor signal. A broken signal wire, a connector pin pushed back, or a failed internal solder joint can interrupt that path.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire open
  2. Pin pushed back out of connector body
  3. Cracked solder joint inside the module or sensor

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light on
  • ESC/stability control deactivated
  • Possible reduced brake assist
  • Speedometer may behave erratically

How to diagnose it

  1. Read the brake module's freeze-frame and live data to confirm that sensor C has no usable signal and check whether the code is current.
  2. Locate sensor C from vehicle-specific service information and inspect its connector for a pin pushed back into the housing or a loose fit.
  3. Trace the sensor C signal wire and harness for breaks, pulled sections, or damage near connectors.
  4. Check circuit continuity between sensor C and the brake control module using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and procedure.
  5. If the external circuit is intact, test the sensor and module connector for an internal open according to the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect a loose sensor C connector and secure its lock.
  • Repair a broken signal wire or damaged harness section.
  • Restore a backed-out connector pin or replace a damaged terminal.
  • Replace sensor C if it has an internal open and the wiring is intact.
  • Repair or replace a module only if testing confirms an internal open there.

Can I keep driving?

The fault can disable ABS or stability functions, and brake assist may be reduced. If braking feels different, stop safely and arrange recovery; otherwise drive cautiously and leave extra stopping distance.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
