OBD-II fault code

B0093: Left Side Restraints Sensor 3 (Subfault)

What it means

The SRS module has lost communication with the left front side impact sensor over the dedicated bus.

How it works

The restraint control module monitors communication with left side restraints sensor 3 over its specified data connection. It stores B0093 when it cannot receive the expected messages from that sensor; this points to a communication or supply issue rather than establishing that the sensor itself has failed.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open bus wiring to sensor
  2. Sensor not powered
  3. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly

Symptoms

  • Warning light or symbol related to the affected system
  • Comfort or safety function impaired

How to diagnose it

  1. Read the restraint module's freeze-frame data and subfault details, then check for related communication or power-supply codes that could explain the loss of messages from left side sensor 3.
  2. With the SRS system made safe according to the vehicle manufacturer's procedure, inspect the sensor 3 connector and communication wiring for damage, looseness, corrosion, or water intrusion.
  3. Check the sensor's power and ground at the specified test points using the manufacturer's procedure.
  4. Test the dedicated communication wiring for opens, shorts, or poor connections using the vehicle-specific diagnostic procedure; do not probe SRS wiring with ordinary test equipment.
  5. If power, ground, and wiring pass, follow the manufacturer's procedure to assess left side sensor 3 and any applicable gateway or restraint module communication path.

Common fixes

  • Secure or repair a loose or corroded left side sensor 3 connector.
  • Repair an open, short, or damaged section of the sensor's communication wiring.
  • Restore the sensor's power or ground supply if it is missing.
  • Replace left side sensor 3 or repair a gateway or restraint module only when the specified tests identify it as faulty.

Can I keep driving?

The vehicle may be drivable, but the restraint system may not respond as intended in a side crash while communication with left side sensor 3 is lost. Arrange prompt diagnosis and avoid relying on the affected SRS protection.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
