What it means
The restraint control module detected a fault associated with the center frontal restraints sensor. It sets the code when the sensor signal or its circuit fails the module's monitoring checks.
How it works
The restraint control module monitors the center frontal restraints sensor and checks that its signal and circuit remain within expected operating conditions. It stores B0094 when the sensor signal or circuit fails those checks, which can follow sensor damage or a wiring problem.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Faulty center frontal sensor
- Damaged or loose sensor wiring
- Corroded connector
- Impact damage near the sensor
Symptoms
- Airbag warning light
- SRS warning message
- Airbags or pretensioners may not work as intended
How to diagnose it
- Read the restraint module's freeze-frame data and any subfault details to identify when the center frontal sensor fault occurred and what condition was recorded.
- With the SRS system made safe according to the vehicle manufacturer's procedure, inspect the center frontal sensor, its mounting area, connector, and wiring for impact damage, looseness, or corrosion.
- Check for recent front-end impact or repairs that may have shifted or damaged the center frontal sensor or its mounting.
- Test the sensor's power, ground, and signal circuits for opens or shorts using the manufacturer's procedure and specifications; do not probe or apply power to SRS circuits with ordinary test equipment.
- If the circuit checks pass, test the center frontal sensor and restraint control module according to the vehicle-specific procedure.
Common fixes
- Secure or repair a loose or corroded center frontal sensor connector.
- Repair damaged wiring or restore a faulty sensor power or ground connection.
- Replace a damaged or failed center frontal restraints sensor and correct any mounting damage.
- Repair or replace the restraint control module only if its checks confirm an internal fault.
Can I keep driving?
The vehicle may be drivable, but frontal airbag or restraint response may be impaired while the SRS warning is on. Arrange prompt diagnosis and avoid relying on the system to protect occupants in a crash.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
