What it means
An open circuit is present in the second-stage deployment loop of the left side airbag.
How it works
The left-side airbag’s second deployment stage has its own electrical loop, monitored by the restraint control module. B0026 specifically indicates that this stage 2 loop is open, so the module cannot confirm a complete deployment circuit.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open wiring under seat
- Unseated airbag connector
Symptoms
- Airbag warning light on
How to diagnose it
- Use an SRS-capable scan tool to confirm B0026 is current and review freeze-frame or event data for when the stage 2 open was detected.
- Disable the SRS following the manufacturer’s procedure, then check that the left-side airbag connector is fully seated and its lock is intact.
- Inspect the under-seat or other applicable harness route for a broken, stretched, or pinched wire that could leave the stage 2 loop open.
- Use the manufacturer’s approved SRS continuity procedure to locate the open between the airbag connector and restraint control module; do not test the inflator directly with a regular meter.
- If the wiring and connectors are intact, follow the service diagnostic tree to determine whether the airbag module or restraint control module has an internal fault.
Common fixes
- Reseat a displaced left-side stage 2 connector using the approved SRS disable and reconnect procedure.
- Repair a broken or pinched wire in the stage 2 loop according to manufacturer service information.
- Replace a damaged connector or terminal that is interrupting continuity.
- Replace the airbag module or restraint control module only if specified checks identify it as the source of the open.
Can I keep driving?
The left-side airbag’s second stage may not deploy while the loop is open, which can reduce protection in a side crash. Arrange prompt repair and avoid moving or working on the related seat or airbag harness.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
