What it means
This code identifies a fault associated with the right side airbag deployment control. The restraint control module sets it when it detects a problem in that deployment control; the exact fault is specified by accompanying subfault information.
How it works
The right-side airbag deployment circuit protects the passenger side of the cabin, and the restraint control module monitors its squib loop. B0024 reports a fault associated with that right-side deployment control; use the accompanying subfault data to identify the precise circuit problem.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Seat harness connector under passenger seat damaged
- Side airbag squib circuit open
- SRS control module fault
Symptoms
- Airbag warning light on
How to diagnose it
- Read the restraint-module subfault and freeze-frame data with an SRS-capable scan tool to verify the affected right-side circuit and whether the fault is current.
- Disable the SRS as directed by the manufacturer, then inspect the passenger-seat harness connector for damage, corrosion, loose fit, or seat-rail pinching.
- Trace the right-side deployment wiring for an open or short and inspect connector terminals at the airbag and restraint control module.
- Check the circuit using the manufacturer’s specified SRS diagnostic method, without directly probing the squib with an ordinary meter.
- If the wiring passes, follow the diagnostic procedure to determine whether the right-side airbag module or restraint control module is faulty.
Common fixes
- Repair passenger-seat harness damage or pinched wiring using the approved SRS method.
- Reseat or replace a damaged passenger-seat connector after disabling the system as specified.
- Repair an open or short in the right-side deployment circuit identified by testing.
- Replace the airbag module or restraint control module only when the prescribed diagnosis confirms a component failure.
Can I keep driving?
The passenger-side airbag may not deploy correctly while the SRS warning is illuminated. Arrange prompt diagnosis, and avoid moving or servicing the passenger seat wiring.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
