Amber and yellow lights

Electric power limited (turtle)

What it means

This indicates that the vehicle has limited propulsion power, often to protect the battery or electric drive system. Amber generally signals a condition needing attention soon, but colour and severity vary by manufacturer.

What the symbol looks like: A turtle seen from the side: a domed shell with a head and four short legs.

Why it comes on

  • Very low traction-battery charge
  • Battery too cold or too hot
  • Motor or inverter temperature protection
  • Fault in the battery, inverter, or electric motor system

What to do

  1. Reduce speed and avoid hard acceleration.
  2. Move to a safe place if the vehicle cannot keep up with traffic.
  3. Check the display for a message about charge, temperature, or a system fault.
  4. Charge or allow the vehicle to cool only as the owner's manual directs; seek assistance if the warning persists.

Can I keep driving?

You may be able to continue gently if the vehicle maintains safe speed and there is no red warning. Avoid fast roads, steep climbs, overtaking, and situations where reduced acceleration could be unsafe.

Symbols and colours differ between makes and models. Your owner’s manual shows the exact lights of your car.
