Emergency escape lane
Information and service signs

Emergency escape lane

Shows a run-off lane where a vehicle can stop if its brakes fail, especially on a steep descent.

The sign indicates an escape lane for a vehicle that cannot stop on a descent. The lane provides a route away from through traffic and may include an arresting bed to slow the vehicle.

Signs commonly show a diagram of the road and escape lane. France C26a indicates an escape lane on the right; other designs may show a different entrance layout.
