Wheel hub joints may not be tightened correctly
Some joints may not have been tightened correctly after chassis frame replacement. The nuts or bolts at specified mounting points or joints will be retightened.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- Wheel hub and nut loose on Hilux
- Defect
- For affected vehicles that previously had the chassis frame replaced in a special facility there is a possibility that some joints were not correctly tightened.
- Remedy
- Retighten nuts and/or bolts in specific mounting or joint portions.
Brake booster piston strength may degrade
The brake booster piston may lose strength. Its serial number will be checked and the piston replaced if necessary.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- THE STRENGTH OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER PISTON COULD DEGRADE
- Defect
- On affected vehicles the strength of the brake booster piston could degrade.
- Remedy
- Check the brake booster piston serial number and replace if necessary.
Incorrect driver airbag inflator may be fitted
A replacement airbag fitted during an earlier recall may be the wrong assembly and may not deploy as intended. Dealers will remove it and fit the correct version.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- WRONG DRIVER AIRBAG INFLATOR IS FITTED
- Defect
- Affected vehicles may have received the wrong replacement airbag assembly through a previous recall. This replacement air bag may not deploy as intended.
- Remedy
- Recall affected vehicles remove existing air bag assembly and replace it with the correct version.
Driver airbag inflator may rupture
Moisture may enter the driver airbag inflator, making it more likely to rupture when deployed and send fragments into the cabin. The airbag will be replaced.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG MAY RUPTURE
- Defect
- Subject vehicles are fitted with driver's air bag assemblies with single stage inflators. There is an increases potential for moisture ingress which could make the inflator more susceptible to rupture during deployment. Fragments may injure occupants.
- Remedy
- Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to replace the airbag.
Steering pinch bolt may loosen
The steering intermediate shaft pinch bolt may loosen, causing noise and steering wheel freeplay and, with continued use, loss of steering. The bolt and related parts will be inspected and replaced if necessary.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- POSSIBILITY OF LOSS OF STEERING
- Defect
- The steering intermediate shaft pinch bolt may not have been tightened correctly during assembly. The bolt may loosen and cause abnormal noise and freeplay at the steering wheel. Prolonged use in this state may cause loss of steering.
- Remedy
- Inspect steering pinch bolt. If necessary replace intermediate shaft and bolt or intermediate shaft bolt and steering link assembly.
Driver's airbag may fail to deploy
A flexible cable in the steering column may become damaged as the wheel turns, interrupting the driver's airbag connection. The warning light may come on and the airbag may not deploy in a crash, increasing injury risk. The remedy is to replace the spiral cables.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- DRIVERS AIRBAG MAY NOT FUNCTION
- Defect
- The steering column assembly in affected vehicles contains electrical connections to the driver's air bag module housed in a spiral cable assembly which includes a Flexible Flat Cable (FFC). Due to the shape and location of the FFC's retainer the FFC could contact a small point of the retainer and become damaged when the steering wheel is turned. In FFC's with seven channel circuits this damage could occur to a circuit on the FFC that provides connectivity to the driver's air bag module. If connectivity is lost the air bag warning light will illuminate. In addition the driver's air bag could become deactivated causing it not to deploy in the event of a crash. This could increase the risk of injury to the driver.
- Remedy
- Replace spiral cables with new ones
Bedliner may detach from the vehicle
The body bedliner may not be secured correctly and could detach at high speed. It will be secured, and replaced if damaged.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- BEDLINER MAY DETACH FROM DECK
- Defect
- It is possible that on single cab versions of the Hilux the body bedliner may not have been secured to body correctly. This could result in the bedliner detaching from the vehicle if it travels at high speeds.
- Remedy
- Recall all affected vehicles and secure the body bedliner. If damaged the bedliner will be replaced.
Differential may affect steering control
The differential may be the wrong specification, causing an incorrect speedometer reading. Selecting four-wheel drive on a hard, low-friction surface could affect directional control. The differential will be inspected and replaced if incorrect.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- POSSIBLE LOSS OF CONTROL
- Defect
- It is possible that the wrong specification differential unit (Crown Wheel & Pinion) has been installed. Not only can this give an incorrect speedometer reading but if four wheel drive is selected on hard surface/road with low friction then directional control of the vehicle can be affected.
- Remedy
- Recall all affected vehicles and inspect differential if found to be the incorrect specification then replace with the correct specification differential.
